The Eagle has landed
Our mascot has made a cameo appearance at the last fixture of the SADVA Mixed League, landing at Woodlands to support the Brown-Tailed Eagles and the Golden Eagles.
In the first game, the Brown-Tailed Eagles quickly took the first set against SVC, who simply could not return the Eagles’ powerful serves. In the second set, SVC put up more of a fight, even taking the lead mid-set but, after a time out, the Eagles came back more determined and went on to win the match.
The second game was an all-Eagles derby – our mascot sitting neutrally in the middle. It had not started very well for the Golden Eagles, who were quickly down 8-0, struggling to cope with Carlos’ strong serves. After a time out, the Golden Eagles decided to fight back, won the serve and closed the point gap, mainly thanks to Liz’s strong serves and Andy’s powerful hits. It was an amazing come back for the Golden Eagles, who found their momentum back and went on to win the set. The second set saw some brilliant volleyball actions from both sides but the Golden Eagles comfortably won the set, securing a 2-0 victory.
In the third game of the evening, the Golden Eagles beat SVC with an easy 2-0 win, remaining undefeated in the league and taking home the gold.
What a great SADVA season for our club, with our teams winning all three leagues (Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed)!
The July evening was exceptionally hot and a restorative drink at the pub was very much needed after all that volleyball so both Eagles Teams headed down to the Master Builder to celebrate.
All leagues are now officially over and we’ll just have some outdoors volleyball fun sessions, ready to start again in September.
A huge thanks to all the coaches and players who worked very hard this season to manage all the teams in our growing club, giving up their time for free and showing great commitment and dedication to the club.
